Detroit's official game-day inactives (published Sept 17, 6:45 p.m. ET), reopened tonight, list no running backs, verifying Jahmyr Gibbs, Sione Vaki and Jacob Saylors are all active; the scratches are offensive line and defense. Isiah Pacheco is on injured reserve and ineligible this week. Fact: SI's Lions Week 2 depth chart (published Sept 17) ranks Vaki the backup ahead of Saylors as reserve and states it would likely be Vaki who gets the bulk of the work if Gibbs were unavailable, while flagging his pass-protection shortcomings; it cites Vaki's Week 1 usage as putting him next in line. Projection, not a reported split: Vaki would lead a committee rather than inherit a workhorse role. This deviates from the deterministic Saylors pick, which reflects raw depth-slot scoring; confidence is held at 0.5 for the unresolved committee.

Backfield news: No Lions running back is inactive, so Gibbs, Vaki and Saylors are all available. Pacheco remains on IR and is not eligible this week; no dated report gives him a return timetable, so his return timetable is unknown. Keep Pacheco off the immediate-game shortlist, but he is the more valuable longer-term handcuff to hold if he regains the No. 2 role, and he is worth an IR slot rather than a bench slot in redraft. For this game Vaki is the eligible pickup: he took the Week 1 backup touches and is listed as the backup, with Saylors a live threat for early-down and pass-protection snaps.

Scouting: Converted safety and special-teams ace used as a change-of-pace runner. Dan Campbell has explicitly called the RB2 job 'by committee,' so Vaki would split work rather than take over if Gibbs went down.

Starter injury history: 2023: missed two games with a hamstring. 2024: played all 18 games. 2025: played all 17. Only two missed games in three seasons and no injury reported entering 2026; recently signed a Lions extension.

Buffalo's official game-day inactives (published Sept 17, 6:44 p.m. ET), reopened tonight, list RB Ty Johnson inactive and do not list James Cook III or Ray Davis, verifying both are active for this game. The same release states RB Frank Gore Jr. was elevated from the practice squad. The Sept 16 (3:19 p.m. ET) Bills injury report carried no designation for Cook or Davis and listed Johnson questionable (hamstring, limited Wednesday); the inactive list now resolves the room's conflicting availability flag on Johnson. Fact: Davis is the No. 2 on the depth chart and the only other active early-down back. Projection, not a reported split: if Cook could not continue, Davis would lead the rotation with Gore Jr. mixing in. Matches the deterministic pick.

Backfield news: Cook and Davis are both active; Ty Johnson is the lone RB inactive (hamstring; questionable and limited Wednesday on the Sept 16 report). Frank Gore Jr. was elevated from the practice squad for tonight. Johnson is not eligible this game, so Davis is the pickup. On ownership: no dated report gives Johnson a return timetable, so his return timetable is unknown, and he was a rotational third back rather than a lead, so there is little redraft reason to hold him over a usable bench slot. Davis is the back worth owning either way as the standing Cook handcuff in redraft and dynasty, though a healthy Cook caps him at change-of-pace work.

Scouting: Compact, physical back who slipped behind Ty Johnson on the 2026 chart but is still the likelier man to take the RB1 role if Cook missed time — he can handle early downs, short yardage and pass protection, where Johnson is a specialist.

Starter injury history: Largely durable in 2023-2025; Buffalo leaned on him more heavily in 2025 (roughly a 57% snap share) without a multi-game injury absence. Occasional in-season knocks but no chronic issue.
