A backup and a fantasy handcuff can be different players
An RB2 label describes depth-chart order. A fantasy handcuff is the player you would hold for the opportunity if the starter misses time. A receiving specialist may play every week while another reserve would inherit more carries. Who gets the work if the starter is out?
Start with the published candidate, then compare role evidence, healthy alternatives and recent production. A backfield can divide carries, targets and short-yardage work instead of promoting one player into the entire starting role.
When should I pick up a backup?
Check the latest availability and your league’s transaction rules before kickoff. Use a spare bench spot only when the potential replacement role is worth more than the player you would drop.
